Reset your Office 2007 Product Key

Filed under: Computer — admin @ 9:52 am

If you juggle multiple license for your Office 2007 products eventually, you are going to install on the same machine twice. You will only know this off course after it is fully installed. At that point, you have two choices pretend you did not know, Microsoft will flag, and shutdown updates after thirty days. You can uninstall the whole product and reinstall again. There is a third option that is easy and less painful then the other two.
There is a registry hack:

Start
Run
Regedit

Find this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0
\Registration\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0
\Registration\{90120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}

This may not be an exact match. Find the ProductName of Microsoft Office 2007

When you have found this registry key, there are two values to delete from the registry
ProductID
DigitalProductID

Exit the registry editor

Open any of the Office Applications like word or excel, and you will be prompted for the new serial number.

Slipstream a Service Pack into a Windows O/S

Filed under: Computer — admin @ 6:36 am

To slipstream a Service Pack into a Windows OS Install will take the most recent Service Pack installer and applying it to the Windows Install Files. Then you can create a CD that is now pre-loaded with the Service Pack.

This will describe the process of slipstreaming a Service Pack into the Windows XP
In order to update the install files, they will need to be in a writable location. This Slipstream Installation we are using the directory C:\Temp.

Create a Temporary Directory on your hard drive, C:\Temp
Then copy the contents of your Windows XP Install CD to the C:\Temp

The Service Pack executable will attempt to install the service pack to your operating system. To use the service pack to slipstream into an OS install, you will need to extract the contents of the Service Pack installer to a temporary directory.

We will use the directory C:\Temp2
Click Start, Run, type C:\service pack file name.exe -x:C:\Temp2, press Enter

This will extract the contents of the file Now that the OS Install files are in a writeable location and the Service Pack install files have been extracted, we can now instruct the Service Pack installer to slipstream your OS Install files making it one operation.

Click Start>Run, type C:\Temp2\i386\update\update.exe -s:C:\Temp, press Enter

This will integrate the Service Pack files into the Windows Install files.
When the integration is complete, click OK

You can now copy the install files to any location you like.
You can also create a Bootable Install CD. This is not just copying to a CD there are other steps involved. Nevertheless, for our purposes this folder is ready to use to install a Windows XP with SP slipstreamed.

You download the product and install, enter your account info, and press the backup button. It is a single form application all you need to enter is your login information, and the destination for the backup files. Then just as described click on the backup button. When completed it will organize the backups by date in the destination folder you selected. Backdoor.Syzoor – Virus Removal

Filed under: Computer — admin @ 6:47 pm

The following steps are required to remove the Backdoor.Syzoor virus there are five basic steps to the process, Disable System Restore, Update your virus definitions, Find and stop the service., Run a full system scan. Delete any values added to the registry. For the specific details on each of these steps, read the following instructions.

If you are running Windows Me or Windows XP, we recommend that you temporarily turn off System Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, from modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools cannot remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, System Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file on your computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all the other locations.

Update the virus definitions to latest on your system
To find and stop the service
Click Start > Run
Type services.msc, and then click OK
Locate and select the service that was detected
Click Action > Properties
Click Stop
Change Startup Type to Manual
Click OK and close the Services window
Restart the computer
Run a full system scan
If any files are detected, follow the instructions displayed by your antivirus program. After the files are deleted, restart the computer and proceed with the next section

To delete the value from the registry
Click Start > Run
Type regedit
Click OK

Navigate to and delete the following registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\”tdss” = “%Temp%\[RANDOM NUMBER].exe”

Exit the Registry Editor
Restart the computer
Run a full system scan
