Windows XP manage computer memory

Filed under: Computer — admin @ 10:12 pm

When your computer physically installed RAM is running low, Windows adds available memory by using a paging file, generally known as virtual memory, on the hard disk to simulate physical RAM. By default, the virtual memory paging file that is created during installation is 1.5 times the physical RAM on your computer. Therefore, a computer that has 1GB of installed RAM will have 1.5GB of virtual memory.
You can manually change the size of the paging file to make it larger or smaller. You can also optimize virtual memory use by dividing the file space between multiple drives and by removing allocated space from slow or heavily accessed drives. To optimize your virtual memory space, divide it among as many physical hard drives as possible.
To manually change the size of virtual memory
Click Start
Click Run
type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, press ENTER
Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance
Click Settings
Click the Advanced tab, and then under Virtual memory
Click Change Under Drive
Click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change
Under Paging file size for selected drive
Click Custom size type a new paging file size in megabytes (MB) in the Initial size (MB)
or Maximum size (MB) box
Then click Set
Click OK to close the dialog box and apply changes

Increase Speed in WindowsXP - Processor scheduling

Filed under: Computer — admin @ 10:34 am

There are a number of resources that are available for a computer’s CPU. Windows manages these resources automatically, and can allocate tasks between processors or manage multiple processes on a single processor. You can adjust how Windows manages these resources by prioritizing them between the foreground programs and the background services. By default, Windows puts a priority on the foreground programs. The added processing resources cause programs to respond more quickly. However, if you have background services, such as printing or disk backup that run while you work and you want them to respond faster, you can have Windows share processor resources equally between background and foreground programs.

The processor scheduling section controls how much processor time Windows XP devotes to a program or process. If your users complain about slow-running programs, you could try setting the processor scheduling to Programs. If users complain that print jobs never print or are very slow to print, or if they run a macro in one application while working in another, you may want to assign equal time by choosing the Background Services option.

To manually change the performance of foreground and background programs, complete these steps:
Click Start Click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the box and then press ENTER
This will Open the System Properties dialog box
Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance click Settings
Click the Advanced tab, and then under Processor scheduling
use one of the following methods
Click Programs to assign more processor resources to the foreground programs
Click Background services to assign equal amounts of processor resources to
all running services. This includes print jobs and applications
Click OK and close all programs and restart computer.

iTouch Battery Replacement

Filed under: Ipod — admin @ 1:29 pm

This is a new area so as much as things change some stay the same you will need small Phillips screw driver, small flathead screwdriver and the iPod/iTouch opening tools if you have them. To start you need to open the iTouch the best entry point is the part where the back plate joins with the aluminum frame just above the dock connector port.

Once you have the tool underneath the back plate move it toward the bottom right corner of the iTouch. Once you get to the edge, you will create a gap between the frame and the back plate. Now flip the iTouch over. Your tool will stays between the back plate and the frame. At this point you will need to use a small flathead into the gap separated gap created by the other tool.

Use the flathead and pry until you feel or hear a click sound. This is the sound of the back plate separating from the frame. Continue around on all sides if the iTouch until the back plate is completely loose. You are no able to lift the back plate and move it out of the way.

The battery is glued down to the back of the screen, this is tricky and be careful and take your time. Try not to bend or puncture the battery on the way out. You now can raise the battery and remove from the socket.

Install the new battery and reverse the process.

Before opening the case, make sure the iPod Mini is turned off and the hold button is activated. Insert a tiny flat-head screwdriver between the white plastic top face and the metal body. Then you need to softly pry apart. The cover is attached by an adhesive. So it may take a little force. When the cover is off, you need to unscrew two small screws on each side.
Look at the bottom of the Mini and remove the white cover the same way you did the top. Once this is removed, you see a metal clip. This can be removed by placing a screwdriver in each corner, prying up.You are now ready to slide out the motherboard; you need to disconnect the connector at the bottom. Pull the connector out of the socket. You are now able to push the motherboard from the bottom through the top.

You need to hold on to the motherboard, making sure the battery is secure then slide the bottom through first. Once you have the unit seated reverse the process with the two tiny screws on the top, then connect the cable on the bottom. Push the metal clip and snap in the bottom and top covers.
